We Are A Nation Of Immigrants
The United States of America, as far as we all know, is the only country on this planet that was created by, was run by and still exists today solely because of all of the immigrants that came to these shores as well as their many, many, many descendants. Even the American Indians came from another place, across the land bridge that once connected Siberia and North America. From these roots and the descendants of the good ship “Mayflower”, who we were taught in grade school that they came here to escape not only religious persecution but other forms of discrimination prevalent in their own countries and everyone else who has since followed in their footsteps, we are who we are. We are either IMMIGRANTS or DESCENDANTS of IMMIGRANTS.
But – in spite of all of the pandering to the illegal immigrants by some of our politicians as well as the current hysterics that are promulgated by those who know little or perhaps nothing of the origin of our country or anything else for that matter, except that they do know that they have the right to complain – we also happen to be a nation of laws.
To this end I refer you to the speech made by Bill Clinton, the 42nd POTUS and the husband of Hillary in case you forgot, in his 1995 State of The Union address to Congress, for which he received a standing ovation.
“All Americans, not only in the states most affected but in every place in this country are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country. The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal aliens and the public service they use impose burdens on our taxpayers. That’s why our administration has moved aggressively to secure our borders more; by hiring a record number of new border guards, by deporting twice as many criminal aliens as ever before, by cracking down on illegal hiring and by barring welfare benefits to illegal aliens. In the budget I will present to you we will try to do more to speed the deporting of illegal aliens who are arrested for crimes and to better identify illegal aliens in the work place as was recommended by the commission headed by former Congresswoman Barbara Jordan. We are a nation of immigrants but we are also a nation of laws. It is wrong and ultimately defeating for a nation of immigrants to permit the kind of abuse of our immigration laws that we have seen in recent years and we must do more to stop it.”
Unless I watched the cleverest video forgery ever made, the speech and the words could have been spoken by Trump himself.
